Lu House

‘合’ in Chinese means expressing a harmonious family of three.

The owner of Lu house, Sandra, told us the love story with her husband, starting from friendship and renewing with true love. When they’ve both achieved post doctorate degree at Hongkong and been back to Changsha, the result of their love was born, their daughter help them to complete this Chinese character ‘合’.

‘This is an open plan space that could be a home, or a studio, or a reading room, or a playground, or a workshop, or an office, or a lounge… each of them being not exactly independent could be transformed from private to communal for family members. Ego, interaction and tolerance, these three elements fall into the definition of life from my point of view.’ Sandra and her husband teaching at different universities, after a brief excursion into interior design, definitely worked out what their house would be.

This 370-square-metre house is a spacious and bright space with minimalist interiors as Sandra expected, tearing down partition walls to re-configurate the layout of home space.
